Michael Savage and the Savage Nation Party
Some of you might ahve heard me in recent weeks mention Michael Savage. My mom during Fall Break was tlaking about what he is doing in trying to start a "Conservative" Party. It sounded like a great idea so I jumped on board with her without really looking into it. Today I went and looked and am actually turned off by some of what he wants to do.

The Savage Manifesto

The Domestic Issues

"F. Have illegal aliens build a wall between the United States and Mexico, and then, repatriate them. Pay them a one-time worker fee."
Problem: I can't support this in any shape or form. This is what Israel has done with its borders. Its horrible and only hurts people. While I agree that we need to make our borders more secure but we need to find a better way to do this.

"H. Make abortions illegal, except when the physical survival of the mother is threatened, to be determined by three medical doctors. Require Norplant for all women on welfare of childbearing age."
Problem: I full heartedly agree with making abortions illegal. The second sentence is the downfall though. Norplant is a contraceptive. I cannot support the use of any kind of birth control. Instead we need to promote adoption and abstience. As Prof. Matthews said today in class the only sure way to not get pregnant is abstience.

"J. Expand the DEA, while decriminalizing most drugs."
Problem: Cannot decriminalize drugs. By having it criminalized we can do something to the dealers who get people hooked on drugs. We cannot also legally get the users into a therapy to help them recover. Expanding the DEA sounds like a good idea though.

"K. Regarding the media; one, eliminate all foreign ownership of any American media entity. Two, break up overly large conglomerates, like News Corporation."
Problem: While I don't like the media because it tends to be wildly pro-choice and liberal there is freedom of speech. We need to maintain that freedom and not inhibit it.

"M. Repatriate all illegal immigrants now incarcerated. Encourage all other illegals to self-repatriate through double taxation on wages and fines on employers."
Problem: These Illegals are the backbone of our economy and country. They do all the jobs, we "Americans" don't want to do. We need to get them to be citizens.

International Issues

"B. Iran. One, sanctions embargoes and mine their harbors. Nothing goes in, nothing comes out."
Problem: Because doing that will really solve the problem. It will just make them hate us more. We need to understand Islam and Shiite Islam better and how it works to solve this problem. And we should not starve people .... In the next clause which deals with North Korea he deals with it in a similar way but says that food can go in.

"G. Mexico. Force Mexico to pay one barrel of oil for every illegal alien in the United States of America per month."
Problem: Because this will really stop illegals from coming into the country. It will just brankrupt Mexico in less than a year. Also make our relations with Mexico go down the drain...

These are just some of the reasons I found problems with Michael Savage and his Savage Nation Party. I agree that we need a Conservative Party to replace the Republican Party but Michael Savage is not the answer. Its a good idea but he went wrong in some areas. He had some very good ideas. He had some very good ideas like clause L in the domestic issues. I guess I am looking though for a Catholic Conservative Party. Maybe I should start one.....

The only problem is that having it Catholic Conservative Party wouldn't get enough votes. it would remain a third party as such.

It would need to include Christians... make it a Christian Conservative Party. Christians as a whole make up a majority of the population of the country. We would have a better chance of getting support of the evangelicals then. Then we would have a large voting bloc behind us with a better shot of winning something.

Unfortunately, we'd have to wait until you're 45 dear. But I TOTALLY support this idea.

why does it have to be conservative? i say be radical and liberal with it too! (our god IS a radical god...)
just think- it could be the first party to cut through all of this 'right' and 'left' stuff and- without endorsing a theocracy- be a party that promotes logic and love! (which is obviously synonymous w/ catholic teaching.) what do you say?!?!

It would promote logic and love. And while yes God is a radical God. But I am not liberal, I am conservative. This falls into the prudential matters that Father talked about the other day. This party will uphold what the Church teaches on moral absolutes but it will go to the right on prudential matters. I do not believe in what the left has to say.
